J.L. O’Rourke is the pen-name of Jenner Lichtwark. Jenner has worked as a journalist, sub-editor, free-lance writer and office administrator and has been writing for longer than she cares to remember. As well as books, Jenner writes random free-form poetry and science fiction filk songs. A trained singer who gave up opera to sing jazz, Jenner enjoys being in a theatre, either onstage as a singer or backstage where she has been everything from floor crew to stage-manager. She has a large collection of dolls and enjoys making dollshouses and playing with model trains. Jenner lives on an olive grove in North Canterbury with two alpacas and several guinea pigs.
Lila Richards lives in one of the leafy suburbs of Christchurch, New Zealand, with two black cats. She works part-time as a sub-editor and proofreader for the New Zealand Meteorological Service. As well as writing, Lila reads eclectically, sews vintage clothes, and collects things, in particular old movies, owls, Egyptiana, and art deco paraphernalia. From time to time she enters the Middle Ages via the Society for Creative Anachronism (an international mediaeval re-creation group), where she transmogrifies into a ninth-century small-holder’s widow living in the west of Ireland, and has attained the rank of Baroness.
